to the point

Women! Want hubby to do his fair share of domestic labour? Forget about this feminism stuff. Try edged weapons:

A WOMAN described by police as "high-maintenance" was arrested yesterday for allegedly killing her husband with a sword after he refused to cook for her.

Tang Xiaowan, 25, is charged with the manslaughter of her husband Li Weidong by prosecutors.

"It is really rare that a family tragedy is caused by a high-maintenance wife," said Lu Qinjian, a prosecutor with the Minhang District Prosecutors' Office.

Police said Tang, who had practiced swordsmanship since she was young and been married to Li for three years, often forced her husband at swordpoint to carry out her demands. ..

...Police said that Li, who was described as honest and simple, had become accustomed to Tang's outbursts and would do anything as he was told, especially when his wife waved her sword in front of him.

via. On an incidental note, the phrase "high maintenance" now seems to have crept into the Chinese press. The context's a bit different though.

"especially when his wife waved her sword in front of him." The world really is stranger than I can imagine. I've tried waving my "sword" at women to get them to do things (in private obviously; not down the pub), but all they do is laugh.

I can't see how it's manslaughter. If you threaten someone with a lethal weapon and you kill them, that's got to be murder.

Strange. Cold steel seems to hold a special role in the meme-pool of violence.
