Tony's western values

OK so yesterday Tony stands out in front of BAE to protect it from a fraud investigation on “national security” grounds. Now:

Russia has dismissed Tony Blair as an "ex-Prime Minister" as it hit back at his warning that British companies would not invest in the country unless it accepted Western values.

No shame whatsoever. But of course, here Tony was pitching for his other favourite company:

Britain has particular concerns about Russia because leading UK energy company BP's Russian unit, TNK-BP, faces a threat to its licence to operate the vast Siberian Kovykta natural gas field.

Well, so it goes. hardly the way to get something out of Putin though, I'd have thought. I suppose the point both today and yesterday was to pitch to BAE and BP as part of his post political career. I wonder if he might not have overplayed it a bit.
