The mystery surrounding the disappearance of a Russian billionaire has deepened with reports that his private jet has been seen in different locations around the world since he vanished two weeks ago. Leonid Rozhetskin, 41, a Russian-born American citizen and co-founder of the free London business newspaper City AM, was reported missing from his £1m Latvian mansion on 16 March raising suspicions he may have been abducted and killed. But his £9m private jet has been spotted since in Vienna, Geneva, Norway, Newfoundland and Luton.

Via. Luton, eh? How Graham Greenish, how infra dig…

But if you think about it, the various tescotowns and nowhere in particulars of Britain would make good 21st century equivalents of the looming German forests, seedy pensions and decayed workers’ housing that formed the backdrop of classic cold war spy fiction – Ballard shading into Le Carre, with a little Iain Sinclair thrown in.

There seems to be quite a bit of turbulence as well in the iceberg world of Dubious Russia. Viktor Bout, Semyon Mogilevich, Rozhetskin…this guy too, maybe.
