HOUSING authorities say a villa owner must demolish his 5-meter-deep "luxury sinking yard" that he's dug in a public greenery area after it collapsed twice due to rain this week.
His neighbors living in nearby villas in a complex on Diantai Road in Baoshan District complained they are living in constant fear as the "deep hole garden" is shaking the foundations of their houses, damaging underground infrastructures and leading to sinking problems.
"It's unbelievable. This guy hired his construction team to dig in his garden and also right in the public greenery area without asking opinions from us. And the big hole is just next to my garage," said a villa owner surnamed Gu.
Nobody knows why this fellow is sinking a gigantic borehole in his own back garden, and if it extends somewhere else, he'll dig there, too. It's not like anyone wants to stop him. Urban China does come across as a middle class Somalia sometimes.
Like that bloke in Hackney.
