Aside from being heartbreaking on its own account, this story of a girl in Beijing frantically trying to organise a search for her father, missing in Saturday's Beijing floods, tells you quite a bit about the society in which the event happened. It's a struggle against huge levels of social distrust and what can only be described as the cruising indifference cum hostility of the police bureaucracy as well as the elements. It ends unhappily.
Jesus.
