Hagman himself, a member of the Peace and Freedom party, once described fellow Texan George Bush as "a sad figure, not too well educated, who doesn't get out of America much. He's leading the country towards fascism".
The PFP are probably best known for their hookup with the Black Panther Party back in the sixties. So Larry parties with the panthers and goes on to create the world's most preposterous capitalist villain for TV auidiences everywhere, having started by singing there is nothing like a dame' in the same chorus line as Sean Connery. Quite the dude.
(via Ken Macleod) some more on the background to and content of Hagman's radicalism: he had a little wobble during the 'JR for President period', but returned to his roots.
& via another sci-fi guy(Charlie Stross) an outline plot which Larry appears to have adapted & then lived out.

Charlie, neither of those links work (and they sound really interesting).

Damn, sorry.
On Larry's radicalism
On that plot line he almost lived
If you want me again today, I'll be over in the sackcloth and ashes store
