Three monks from Ngaba, a mother from Rebkong and a Tibetan man from Driru are reported to have self-immolated on Wednesday in an apparent China protest, a day before the Chinese Communist Party’s 18th National Congress.
This seems to have taken place while voting in US presidentials was actually happening. The demands were the same as ever: for China to acknowledge Tibetan independence and invide the Dalai Lama back. The Tibetan government in exile called on Tibetans to stop self immolating a month or so ago, since when the numbers doing so seem to have increased: we're now on 68. I don't know if this signifies some kind of split between groups inside and outside China. More over here.
