Here’s a bit of good news:
Frank Sidebottom WILL be immortalised in bronze after the thumbs-up from town hall planners.Trafford Council has given permission for a statue of the TV funnyman to be erected in his home town.
They’re going to put the statue opposite the pub in Timperley village instead of up in Albert Square, where he belongs with all the other luminaries. Nor, it seems, is he mounted, waving a yataghan and depicted with the heads of other, inferior light entertainers strewn about the pracing hooves of his mount, as we so often remembered him in life. But you can’t have everything.
The organisers still need a couple of thousand to get the whole thing done and dusted. If you’re mildly drunk and/or feeling generous, you can donate via paypal here.
