The Captain of Kopenick fooled a barracks. The Vice Minister of Kunming fooled an entire province. A province so far to the south that it probably gets confused with Australia in Beijing, admittedly, but a province with the population of a large European country nonetheless. Well played, sir. I hope to see you putting together a bid for an English premier league team any time now.
Interesting contrast between Prussian and Chinese authoritarianism here. The reflex of obedience is the same. But where the Prussians couldn’t resist a man in uniform, the Yunnanese couldn’t resist a man claiming to be a vice-minister with a remit over economic development.
