So, Glenn Beck jumps on the SUPERCHINESEWILLEATUSALL bandwagon, with an endorsement of Gavin fucking Menzies thrown in. (Fun fact: Menzies is officially a "vexatious litigant," which is basically the courts' way of saying "You're a dickhead.")
I don't think he breaks out the tears in this one, but Beck's crying has always seemed to me to be the ultimate example of the whole bully-victim complex the US (and China) has going. Why is everybody being so mean to us? We'll show them!
So the China stuff isn't that surprising - if anything, it's odd he took so long to get around to it - but the Menzies thing is. It's such transparent bullshit, but there's a natural affinity for the crazy and conspiratorial in the murky world of the right that Beck inhabits. Look at Melanie Phillips in the UK: there's no reason, other than a shared belief that everyone is lying to you, that being a far-right Likudnik should also put you with the anti-climate-change *and* the anti-vaccine nuts, especially since the anti-vaccine crowd trends slightly left.
The contrast between the US press on China ("Supermissiles! Genius students! Millions of millionaires!") and the Chinese press ("Housing crisis! Corrupt officials! Income gap! Bottom rungs of the industrial chain") is fun. It's like a great black joke of the 1930s. Two Jews are in the coffee house together, when one of them realizes the other is reading the Völkischer Beobachter. "Why on earth are you reading that Nazi rag?" asks his friend. "Well, I read the Yiddish newspaper, and all I see is how the Jews are persecuted, driven out of the professions, murdered. But I read this, and the news is all about how we rule the world."
