I’ve always tried to think like Sciascia, inasmuch as I can do that, while writing about Chinese politics; which is why Jim Henley’s striking and elegant pieces of “behindism” here and here struck a few chords. In particular, the description of the dynamic between Democrat and Republican in both pieces reminded me a lot of the manouvering of the PCI and Demochristian establishment in Italy as described in The Moro Affair. Obscure? No, just the inevitable convergence of parallel lines.
Come to think of it, the "behaviour of the PCI during the Moro affair as described by Sciascia" may be a good template for what we can expect from a Democratic administration, if there is one.
And speaking of behindism…
