Just when you think you’re finally going to get bored by MPs expenses claims, another little gem is unearthed:

There really should be a proper social analysis of all the claims. What you have here is a fairly representative sample of the middle classes given free money and told to go ahead and spend it on what they like. Apart from anything else, the data, suitably crunched would be pure commercial gold – what “aspirational” people buy, what they buy after their aspirations have been met.
In a way it’s a shame that this whole story broke before Cameron launched his scheme to fill the Tory back benches full of random dipshits. You’d have got some really baroque stuff then, I bet: whips, invoices for pet panthers, copies of Battleship Earth signed in the fair hand of none other than L Ron Hubbard himself. Sadly, reform will see an end to all that.
