OK, so Michael Gove does exactly what he says he was going to do:

 A school which burnt to the ground seven months ago, forcing its pupils to attend lessons in portakabins, was one of hundreds that heard this week that the government had called a halt to its rebuilding plans.

This is partly because funding for the new school had been put under the last government’s Building Schools for the Future programme. But that implies that Gove and his department simply scrapped everything under that budget heading without looking at the projects individually – before somehow misplacing the full list of schools whose capital budgets they intend to wipe out. 

Or maybe he thought, sod it, scrap the lot. Because he’s not just making kids in Doncaster learn in sheds to satisfy the Treasury, he’s doing it in pursuit of projects of his own. And as you can see, the anthroposophists are pretty heavily wired into the nouveaux Tory establishment. So while there may not be the budget to build an actual school in Doncaster, there will be the money for this, amongst other things:

“The curriculum of the Waldorf school prepares students to receive the pictures of the Angels. Which subjects help students develop the impulse of brotherhood? Which subjects help them develop a sense of what the human being really is? Geography and the foreign languages. Which subjects help students develop a sense for the hidden divinity within each human being? History and literature. Which subjects help students develop the ability to reach the Spirit through thinking? Science and mathematics.”

Now that’s a free school. It’s time the other shoe dropped on this.

It's happening, particularly since the main cheerleader of the Free Schools crap, Toby Young, is proposing to set up in Ealing, bang in the middle of a big swathe of schools now shorn of rebuilding projects, including PRUs and various special schools that urgently need updating.
