When Andrew Castle's wife of 18 years asked him for a divorce, his response was to rig up a homemade electric chair in his garage and try to kill her.
The puzzling thing about this is how he would have explained his wife’s death to the cops. “I told her time and again that sitting down was dangerous. But she wouldn’t listen. She just went straight into the garage and sat right down and got electrocuted.” Or maybe he was going to dump her on the lawn and claim she got hit by lightning.
the best-laid plans: "he sat her in the metal chair, intending to knock her unconscious with a rubber cosh... However, his 61-year-old wife got up from the chair before he could carry out his plan and... hit him several times with the cosh"
Police found him wandering dazed in the garden, bruised from stepping on the many rakes he had laid on the lawn to impede her getaway
