OK, since we're dealing with Chinese politics high and low today, here's the Congressional Research Service's detailed backgounder on Xi Jinping, the next CPC General Secretary and President of China, on the occasion of his forthcoming visit to the US. The biographical details are the best bit; a nice portrait of a man rising without trace. Here's a racier account, or at 'least as racy as you can get about a man 'uninterested in drinking or extramarital affairs.'
If anyone reading from China does have some low-down dirty gossip about Xi, I'd just like to say that the blog is no place for it. The comment box, on the other hand...
Isn't it closer to a truncated 'shit'? Certainly, wanting to elongate the i sound at the end of pinyin words has been one of the trickier habits to break.

I'd always thought it was more like 'hsee', but that would have been in Wade-Giles, I guess.
